Peach Pie Moonshine...just what the Doctor ordered!

Well, I've gotten myself in a predicament......I'm hurt. I am normally the type of person who can push through the aches and pains of life and go along just fine, but I pushed through too long and now I've landed myself in something only time can heal. I have a fractured ankle!

How did this happen? Well, I decided to get a trainer to show me how to work out for maximum benefit. Unfortunately, I didn't pay this fellow a lot and I definitely got what I paid for (I'm quite certain he was not certified as my friend later asked me). Even knowing that I wasn't used to working out like this at all, the trainer had me doing tall box jumps on my fifth day of working out.....needless to say that was the bad beginning. The next day my ankle hurt.....bad. I didn't work out for the next 4 days and by Friday that week I went to the doctor. He informed me that I had hurt a tendon and that's it.

The next day we worked all of our cattle. Cows were sorted off and poured. Calves were run through and inoculated. Even through the rough days I absolutely love what we do for a living! Here are a few pictures from that day:

It was a busy day.....I worked all day long in the heat and the dust. Thanks to Ibuprofen and ice packs! The final blow for my ankle came when a calf reared up out of the alleyway. He hit me square in the sternum/rib cage throwing me through the air. I came down hard on both ankles on the ground off the catwalk. I think that is the straw that broke the camel's back (or my ankle so to speak).

By Monday, I was in a lot of pain......and it kept getting worse! I knew the first doctor couldn't be right so by Wednesday I was in seeing an Orthopedic specialist in Rapid City. I had X-Rays and and MRI. The specialist told me I had a stress fracture....not on just one ankle either. I like boots, but not the kind that you see above! I also get to use a lovely knee walker and/or crutches for the next few weeks.

My left ankle is worse off than my right one, but now that I am putting all of my weight on the one ankle....its smarts worse than ever! So, here I am on the couch......typing away! Thank goodness for the internet! I can't even go feed my horse. I sure hope the next 2-3 weeks pass quickly and with lots of healing in there also. I'm not the kind of person that wants to sit around for days on end. :)

One way to cope with some discomfort will be the recent batch of Peach Pie Moonshine that I made! It is heaven in a jar.....and it was super easy to make! You can find a multitude of recipes on how to make it by doing a google search. I found several I liked and sort of make my own version. Here is how I made mine:

Peach Pie Moonshine

  • 3 large cans of peaches in syrup

  • 2 64 oz. bottles of White Grape Peach Juice

  • 6 sticks of Cinnamon

  • 3 cups of Sugar

  • Couple dashes of Cloves, ground

  • Couple dashes of Cinnamon, ground

  • 1 bottle of Peach Schapps (750 ml)

  • 1 bottle of Everclear (750 ml)

Bring the Peaches in syrup, White Grape Peach Juice, cinnamon sticks, sugar, ground cloves, and ground cinnamon to a boil. Simmer for 1 hour. Turn off heat and let it cool to room temperature.

Use cheesecloth to separate peaches from the liquid. My husband didn't see the importance of this step, but I did. It really helps your shine remain crystal clear and pretty. :)

Place the peaches in Mason jars (whatever size you want to use). Discard the pulp and cinnamon sticks.

Mix the remaining liquid with the Peach Schnapps and Everclear.

Pour into the jars and seal. Keep refrigerated. Makes around 14-16 pint sized jars.

Enjoy!!! I know I will..... :) ~Cheyenne
