Howdy! Who Am I?!

Howdy! I’ve noticed some new faces here lately and since it’s been too long since I’ve introduced myself…let me do that right now!

I’m Cheyenne or Chey to my friends and family. You might say that I wear a lot of hats in life. Besides being a positive-minded, goal-oriented woman, I’m also a wife, daughter, sister, friend, cowgirl, cattlewoman, horse breeder, writer, photographer, homeschool mom and entrepreneur. I am proud to be a 5th generation rancher! One side of my family has been traced back to arriving in this country before 1650…and the Native side of my family has been here long before there were record books to track such things. I’m an enrolled member of the great Oglala Lakota Sioux Tribe.

I grew up in southeastern Montana on the place that my ancestors homesteaded. I now live in southwestern South Dakota with my husband, Shane, and our son, Stone. We also own the place my husband grew up on in Montana near Big Timber. You might say that Montana is deeply rooted in my soul and it’s forever the place I will consider home.

I spend my days working on our ranch. There really isn’t anything that I’ve not come to love about what we do. I fence, check cattle, ride, rope, doctor, sort, trail, brand, castrate, halter-break, etc. I love having the freedoms we do out here. A long time ago my dad told me that you don’t ever get rich being a rancher. That may be true in the monetary sense, but in all other ways I feel like King Midas!

Being an Ag woman in this day and age doesn’t have a down-side in my opinion. I have never felt “less than” out here. My folks raised me to be strong and self-reliant. My husband supports that and even furthered me in this area. We are true partners in all we do. I am so grateful to have walked a twisting path that led us together. I’ve learned there are a lot of ups and downs in life. It’s part of the journey. The best thing to do is smile and stay focused on your goals. That alone will keep you focused and not deterred by the things that try to bring you down. Also, a big dose of gratitude in your heart daily does wonders to helping you keep perspective.

It’s nice to “meet” you all! 🤠
